How to Take Your Skincare Routine to the Next Level

Serums- the products fighting the good fight for your skin.

Let’s be clear it’s always important to start with the foundational products when creating a skincare routine. This would be a cleanser, toner, moisturizer and SPF product based on your skin type. Once you have established a solid routine utilizing core products on a daily basis you can take your skincare game to the next level. How do you do that you ask? Simple… add a serum or two!

I like to say that serums are the army to our skincare routine. They are highly concentrated and highly effective products that work to target our key skincare concerns. Both for reversing damage already done and preventing damage from occurring. Now I know what you’re probably thinking there are so many options how do I know which one to use, how much to spend, when to use it and where to use it in my skincare regimen.

Which serum should I use? This is going to be based on two main things, first being your skin type and the second being what your skin goals are. Let’s start with your skin type. Most either fall into the category of normal/sensitive/dry or oily/acne prone. For those with normal/dry/sensitive you will most likely love starting with a hyaluronic acid. Serums with H.A. As we call it attract moisture from your environment and bring it into the skin. This helps hydrate and nourish your skin barrier, essentially taking it from a raisin to a grape. For those who deal with skin that tends to be oily or acne prone you will most likely focus on serums that help to combat such. Things like mandelic acids, salicylic acids, or benzoyl peroxides will help exfoliate your skin while killing bacteria to help keep breakouts under control and help prevent future ones from developing.

How much should I spend on a serum? I’m going to be completely transparent serums are highly concentrated and effective. They should not be overly diluted with fillers which means they usually come in smaller packages but because of that you use less on your skin. Quality serums depending on bottle size will usually run you from $65-$125 depending on what it is. It is also important to note that most serums have a reduction in potency as they are exposed to air/oxygen. Finding serums with “airless” pumps will help not only dispense the perfect amount but also keep them at their highest level of potency throughout the lifespan. This is why we love Green Envee serums!

When/where should I use serums? When I talk about when to use a serum I am referring to AM/PM. Anything that is exfoliating is usually recommended to use in the evening. Anything that is hydrating or protecting like a vitamin C or Hyaluronic Acid will usually be used in the AM or evening can be layered in the PM as well. Where you should be using a serum is a layering question on how to incorporate it into the routine you're using. In a basic order you will want to layer as such: cleanser, toner, serum, moisturizer. If you use multiple serums at the same time you will want to layer them thinnest to thickest.

Green Envee offers a variety of highly effective serums in “airless” pumps to target a variety of skincare concerns and goals. We would love to help you find the perfect serum.. or two!
